I am a Chartered Consultant Clinical Psychologist. I have worked with adults, adolescents and with the parents of children, both in the NHS and privately for over thirty years.
I did my first degree in Psychology at the University of York and trained in Clinical Psychology at University College London. I did my doctorate (The treatment of cocaine, amphetamine and ecstasy misusers) at University College Hospital and the University of Surrey.
I am a Professor in the Public Understanding of Science with honorary doctorates from the Open University, the University of York and London Metropolitan University. I am Honorary Professor of Psychology at Shangdong Normal University in China and was Chancellor of Edge Hill University from 2008 - 2018.
As a clinician, journalist, author and broadcaster I work with and write about a variety of psychological and emotional issues as well as mental health difficulties that affect people of all ages.
